September Library Programs

Preschool (Ages 3-5) Story Time- Inspire your future reader at our preschool story time. Join us for exciting stories selected just for children ages 3-5 years old. Programs will be held in Youth Services program room on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Sept. 1st; “Ice Cream Treat”
Sept. 7th&8th; “Dog-gone It!”
Sept. 14th&15th; “Down on the Farm”
Sept. 21st&22nd; “Everything Elephants”
Sept. 28th&29th; “Picking Apples”

Tea and Book Discussion with Guest Speaker and Author, Nancy M. Kenaston - Niceville Community Center, 204 Partin Drive, on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:30 am. Program is free. Please call 279-4863 ext 1504 to reserve a seat.

Baby Bookworms - This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. Program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on 2nd & 4th Fridays each month. Prewalkers -9:30, Walkers up to age three-10:30. We will meet Sept. 9th & Sept. 23rd.

Introduction to Grant Writing Presentation - presented by Dr. Anne Holt on Saturday, September 10, 2011. This program will take place in the Library at 206 Partin Drive N., from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. The program will cover: • Grant writing guidelines • Model narrative budget • Florida funders list • Writing do’s and don’ts • Tips on finding matching funds. The cost is $30.00 per person payable at the door. Registration is required since space is limited. You can register at the Niceville Library Reference Desk or call us at 279-4868 ext 1504.

Friends of the Niceville Library Book Sale -Featuring a wide selection of gently used books for everyone in your family! Friday, September 16 - Friends only Presale at 4pm-6pm (nonmembers can join at the door). Saturday, September 17 - Open to the Public Sale at 8:30am-2pm * Saturday will include an amazing bake sale! * If you have any questions you can stop by the Friends Bookstore in the Library, email them at: libraryfriends@niceville.org, or call: 279-4868 ext 1504.

American Girls History Mystery Book Club- This club for girls in 2nd-6th grade will meet the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until noon in the YS program room. Registration is required as space is limited. Girls must sign up in YS for each meeting, check out the book or purchase your own copy, and finish the book before the meeting date. Our first meeting is Sept. 17th and the first book selection is “Clue in the Castle Tower: A Samantha Mystery” by Sarah Masters Buckey. Please call 279-4863 x1514.

After School Program - “Catch the Magic School Bus” each month in Youth Services! Children ages 6-12 years old meet the second Tuesday of each month from 4:15-5:30 in the program room. Every month the program will focus on a different Magic School Bus book and will include fun facts, hands-on activities, cool science and of course a Ms. Frizzle mystery or two. Children are encouraged to check out related books and are always welcome to share what they’ve read and learned along the way. Space is limited so registration is required. Our first meeting is Sept. 13th when the Magic School Bus goes “Inside Ralphie”. Please call 279-4863 x1514.

Saturday Special—National Literacy Month presentation - Get ready to ride The Magic School Bus! Guest reader, Doe Schuster, from Henderson Beach State Park will read “The Magic School Bus Gets Crabby”. Help us celebrate National Literacy Month in Youth Services September 10th at 12:30 p.m. Ms. Schuster will read and bring a variety of live crabs for some hands-on fun! FL State Parks recognize National Literacy Month Sunday, September 11th. Bring a library card, library book or donate a gently used family-friendly book and park admission will be waived for the day!

Scrabble Anyone? @ Niceville Library – Do you enjoy playing Scrabble? If so, here’s a great opportunity to have fun, meet new people and play some Scrabble, as the small conference room at the Niceville Public Library will be set up with Scrabble boards for the adult community to play and enjoy on Wednesday, September 7 and 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind that you don’t have to be an expert to participate and all skill levels are welcome. We’re looking for a few good teenagers for our Teen Advisory group! The advisory group plans library activities for teens, gives input for book purchasing, and of course, earns those valuable volunteer hours for FL Bright Future Scholarships!
Sept. 15th; Xbox Gaming 2:00-4:00
Sept. 20th; Sushi Social 2:00-4:00 Sign-up is required for this program.
