January Library Programs

Florida Humanities Program with Writer and Naturalist, Susan Cerulean: Florida Then and Now – "Oil Spill 2010 On Our Shores": Susan Cerulean recently collaborated to edit the book Unspoiled: Writers Speak for Florida’s Coast. She will share some of the work of the 38 writers, scientists, and students who came together to speak on behalf of Florida’s Gulf of Mexico coast and its sea life. Niceville Community Center (adjacent to the Library) Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 7:00 pm. This FREE program is funded by the Florida Humanities Council and local grant partners NWFS College, and the Friends of the Niceville Library.

Scrabble Anyone? @ Niceville Library: Do you enjoy playing Scrabble? If so, here’s a great opportunity to have fun, meet new people and play some Scrabble, as the small conference room at the Niceville Public Library will be set up with Scrabble boards for the adult community to play and enjoy on Wednesday, January 5 and 19 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind that you don’t have to be an expert to participate and all skill levels are welcome. So bring your friends or come on your own and join in the fun!

Preschool (Ages 3-5) Story Time- Inspire your future reader at our preschool story time. Join us for exciting stories selected just for children ages 3-5 years old. Programs will be held in Youth Services program room on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Baby Bookworms - This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. Program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on 2nd & 4th Fridays each month. Prewalkers -9:30, Walkers up to age three-10:30. We will meet Jan 7th (instead of 14th) and Jan. 28th this month.

After School Program - “Kids Around the World Tell a Story” is the theme for this year. Children ages 6-12 yrs. meet the second Tuesday of each month from 4:15-5:30 in the YS program room. Please register your child in Youth Services. We will hear stories from countries along the Silk Road as well as discovering interesting facts along the way. American Girls History Mystery Book Club - This club for girls in 2nd-6th grade will meet the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The book to read this month is “The Night Flyers” by Elizabeth McDavid Jones. Girls must sign up in YS for each meeting, check out the book or purchase your own copy, and finish the book before the meeting date; Jan 15th. Local Author Reads - Local author, Nell Bradford, will be in the Youth Services program room Saturday Jan. 8th at 11:00 a.m. She will read her recently published children’s book “Little Cheep Chirp”. Ms. Bradford will also have her book available for purchase and answer any questions. A synopsis of her book can be found at Amazon.com. Activities and refreshments will be provided. Teen Space-Ages 13-17- Spend some time with a good read from our Teen Book collection. Volunteer hours are available for your Florida Bright Futures scholarship—it’s never too soon to start!
