Check April Programs Out @ Your Library

National Library Week @ Your Library   National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. Please stop by the library during this week and celebrate with us. Also if you owe or have accrued fines on your library account "during this week only", the library will be accepting canned goods and non-perishable food items for Sharing & Caring in lieu of fines. These items will help families in our community. The value of the canned goods and non-perishable food items should be close to the amount of the fine owed.

Money Smart Week @ Your Library Money  Smart Week®is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Mark your calendars! Money Smart Week @ Your Library takes place on April 21-28, 2012. We will have exhibits, programs and contests for all ages. Also stop by the YS dept. or the library lobby to pick up rules and information about our 1st annual piggy bank contest for kids and teens.

Money Smart Week Kick-off Movie and family fun Thursday, April 19th at 6:30 p.m. in YS program room. Disney's "Money School House Rock!" kicks off Money Smart Week @ Your Library and National Financial Literacy Month. Come check out our programs, displays and handouts all designed to help you become money smart! And don't forget to pick up rules for our 1st Annual Piggy Bank Beauty Contest! Family Movie Hour Enjoy special family time at the library Saturday, April 7th at 10:30 a.m. with Caldecott Award winning books in action! Favorites such as "Strega Nona" by Tomie dePaola, "Joseph Had a Little Overcoat" by Simms Taback and more will be shown in Youth Services program room. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be served and take home activities available.

Baby Bookworms  This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. Program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on 2nd & 4th Fridays each month. Prewalkers -9:30, Walkers up to age three-10:30. This month our program will be held April 27th only.

Preschool (Ages 3-5) Story Time Inspire your future reader at our preschool story time. Join us for exciting stories selected just for children ages 3-5 years old. Programs will be held in Youth Services program room on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

In Remembrance of the Holocaust On Tuesday, April 17 @ Niceville Community Center beginning at 6:30pm please join us as Pam Smith discusses the National Holocaust as well as Stories of Rescue. Then George Collins will talk about Human Trafficking in Okaloosa County. This event is free and open to the public. This program is provided through a grant from the FL. Titanic: 100th Anniversary with Judy DeBolt Event will be held at the Niceville Community Center on Saturday, April 21, 2012 @ 10:30 am. April 15, 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Come and hear the stories of the passengers and crew on this ill-fated voyage. This is a free event and opens to the public. American Girls History Mystery Book Club This club for girls in 2nd-6th grade will meet the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until noon in the YS program room. Registration is required as space is limited. Girls must sign up in YS for each meeting, check out the book or purchase your own copy, and finish the book before the meeting date. We will meet April 21st to discuss "Betrayal at Cross Creek" by Kathleen Ernst, from 10:00-12:00. Girls MUST be registered to attend so please call 279-4863 x1514 to reserve a seat.

After School Program  Catch the Magic School Bus" each month in Youth Services! Children ages 6-12 years old meet the second Tuesday of each month from 4:15-5:30 in the program room. Every month the program will focus on a different Magic School Bus book and will include fun facts, hands-on activities, cool science and of course a Ms. Frizzle mystery or two. Children are encouraged to check out related books and are always welcome to share what they've read and learned along the way. Space is limited so registration is required. We will be meeting on a special date this month-April 17th as "The Magic School Bus Gets Recycled". Please call 279-4863 x1514.

AARP Driver Safety Course This is a 6 hour ~ 2 Day Course on Monday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. -11:30 am for Ages: 50 + in the Niceville Community Center Classroom. The H. L. Mencken of the South: Larkin Cleveland of Florida with Dean DeBolt, UWF Library. Niceville Community Center on Friday, April 27, 2012 @ 11:00 a.m. Join guest speaker, Dean DeBolt as he shares the colorful life of newspaper editor and writer Larkin Cleveland. Preaching from his Temple of Truth, aka The Herald, in DeFuniak Springs, Cleveland distributed one of many small weekly newspapers in Florida between 1920 -1950. His hilarious commentaries and columns on topics such as "The Coming of the Radio" or "The Organdy Shirt from Steers and Sawbucks" as well as his long-running "Chitlin' Society," made him known throughout the South as Florida's H.
